Lagging by the big OTA push by just a couple short days, Palm has published its SDK for devs looking to target webOS 1.4 — and it’s got some pretty important changes in the mix. Besides the obvious addition of Flash 10.1 on the Pre, 1.4 now incorporates WebKit 4 (along with an updated V8 JavaScript engine), better conformance with the HTML5 Media API spec, and additions to the platform’s camera API to interact with the new video recording support
My earlier review of the Palm Pre Plus found a few hardware faults, but with a new device and the webOS 1.4 update I am singing a new tune. A Pre Plus may soon be added to my smartphone collection thanks to these improvements.
Palm has officially unveiled the webOS 1.4 update for the Sprint branded Palm Pre and Palm Pixi. The main updates include the ability to not only shoot, but to edit video, improved usability in the major applications, and the use of the LED in the gesture area as a new message notification light.
No leaks or release date rumors this time, a mere 39mb download is all that separates your Sprint, O2 or Movistar connected Pre from video recording, Flash , enhanced message notifications and much-desired performance and battery life improvements.
