Sprint, the third largest mobile carrier in the US, has already been considered to have the most competitive pricing in the market. Today, they’ve stepped up their game and announced a new “Any Mobile, Anytime” plan that allows free calls to any mobile phone without limitation of certain hours or days. The plan effectively changes the $69.99 plan that includes 450 mobile to landline minutes and $79.99 for 900 mobile to landline minutes.
Last week rumors started floating around that a $50 price break for the Pre would soon be announced, making Sprint’s flagship phone even more tempting for those who haven’t already jumped into the pool. Today Sprint made that announcement, but instead of the rumored $50, Sprint is taking another $100 off in the form of credit taken off the monthly bill for customers switching from another carrier only. (Sorry Sprint customers, no deal for you.) This may be Sprint’s best move (aside from locking down 2 of the most talked about phones of the summer Palm Pre and HTC Hero) because a lot of people who may think the Pre is a great phone are still scared of switching to Sprint who in the past years has had some rough patches to say the least
A few days ago, images leaked of what appeared to be a Verizon Wireless inventory listing and it included two Palm devices that we’ve never heard of. The P121VZW and the P101VZW. The P101VZW could very well be the Verizon Wireless neutered modified Palm Pre since we already know that the Pre carries the model number P101.
Sprint Nextel announced via press release that they are purchasing Virgin Mobile USA for around $483 million USD. This is a sound move for Sprint, who already owned a 13.1% stake in the company and who allows the company use its CDMA network to operate its prepaid wireless service. This move effectively brings Sprint another 5 million subscribers and more than doubles in size their current prepaid service, Boost Mobile, which has seen its popularity soar in recent months.
The Palm Pre appears to now be available for online ordering from Sprint’s website . This is good news, of course, for those of you still hunting for one or without a Sprint retail store nearby.
