We won’t lie: we did feel a little put out when our pal Jon Rubinstein told us that webOS 2.0 wouldn’t be coming to the Palm Pre Plus — something about the older hardware not having the necessary “oomph” to handle the new OS. But perhaps all hope is not lost! According to a rep from O2 Germany (as espied on the company’s support forums) HP will make with the new operating system at some point in the near future — just not as an over-the-air update.
If you like ‘em cute, small, and (presumably) cheap, HP’s announcement today of the Veer should make you pretty happy — on the surface, it looks like a downsized Pre , but really, you can think of it as a proper Pixi / Pixi Plus successor.
You might recall that Verizon recently touted expanded device compatibility for its DVR Manager app, a boon for anyone looking to nab the latest episode of Income Property while hundreds of miles away from the homestead (we know, it happens all the time) — but what Big Red didn’t really highlight in its press release was that webOS was one of the platforms now being supported. As with the app’s counterparts on other mobile operating systems, the Palm-flavored build lets customers “set parental controls, set bookmarks, browse and search TV programming, view the DVR status to see how much space is left for recording, browse and search VOD listings, and see their lists of scheduled and recorded programs” — and so far, it’s getting well over four stars on a five-star scale since going live in the App Catalog, a good sign for usability.

Model number P121UEU (as opposed to the AT&T variant, the P121UNA) now has the full blessing of the boys and girls at the Feds — so when you pick up a Pixi Plus from your O2 shop on the next few weeks, take comfort in the knowledge that you won’t be Tased, tackled, and placed under arrest for attempting to use one on American soil
Whoa, we didn’t see this one coming: Verizon just slashed the cost of its 3G Mobile Hotspot feature for the Pre Plus and Pixi Plus all the way down to $0, effectively giving you a broadband modem for your laptop, iPod touch, and up to three other devices for $60 less per month than you’d pay with a MiFi that accomplishes exactly the same function (and $50 less than any other tether-capable Verizon handset).
According to a little late night tweet from Palm — and the update screen on our device — the stacked new webOS 1.4 update is making its way out into the world for the company’s Verizon-flavored devices. That’s right, Plussers — video recording (and editing) is just a small download away
Oh boy. Research firm OTR Global is making some waves today with a report claiming that Palm ordered all Pre and Pixi manufacturing to be halted, but apparently they didn’t look at a calendar — or, you know, call Palm.
Pardon us if we’re playing the role of Captain Obvious here, but just a heads up: we’ve got some pretty solid evidence before our eyes that Palm has GSM versions of both Verizon’s Pre Plus and Pixi Plus in the pipe. Said proof comes via the certification gurus at TUV Rheinland who’ve listed both a P101UNA and P121UNA in their systems from Palm; P101 and P121 are the numeric codes for the Pre Plus and Pixi Plus, respectively, and “UNA” indicates a GSM variant (versus the deliciously underhanded “EWW” for CDMA).

The Pre Plus and Pixi Plus can hook up five Wi-Fi devices to the net, over 3G, after using the Mobile HotSpot app. That means you can use the two phones as a MiFi hotspot.
Good ole’ Jon Rubinstein, live on stage just announced the Palm Pixi Plus . Looks like the only difference here from its predecessor is that it’s got WiFi — and it’s bound for Verizon Wireless’ network.
The Palm Pre plus removed the navigation button, has 2x internal RAM, 16GB storage, and a built-in inductive back cover for Touchstone inductive charging. The Pixi Plus is still “thin and lightweight”, but now has Wi-Fi, more colors for back covers (all Touchstone enabled). And both these phones are only for Verizon
