We just had a chance to play around with the new Palm Pre Plus (and Palm Pixi Plus ), and we must say — they’ve made some solid improvements to these devices. We’re going to focus on the Pre, since it’s really had the bulk of the changes. Firstly, it’s now a Verizon branded (and bound) phone, which should bump the status of the device in many people’s minds
And just like that, you’ve got specs. We’d already heard that the Palm Pre Plus and Pixi Plus were headed to Big Red for some more EV-DO action, and now we’ve got a leaked image of the phones’ spec list. Guess what
Okay, so this is quite the lag from October’s North American availability , but at least when the paid portion of Palm’s App Catalog rolls out across Europe it shouldn’t experience the stuttering start it suffered back in the US of A. Palm has excitedly blurted out the news on its developer network blog, but not without the requisite garnishings of buzzwords like “leverage,” “freedom,” “choice,” “control,” and “speed,” as well as something about “faster cycle times” — all of it designed to get more developers onboard
Just to clarify right out of the gate, the “year” Fast Company is referring to is 2009, but nonetheless, it’s an award we’re sure Jon is happy to have. 11 geeks were found worthy of the “Geek of the Year” award in ’09, with the likes of Evan Williams and Biz Stone (Twitter), David S
We’d heard webOS 1.3.5 would be coming to the Pre on Sprint today, and here we go — it’s being pushed to devices right now. The official changelog is quite long, but the big-ticket tweaks include the removal of the app storage limit, better performance, and improved battery life. We’ll let you know how our update goes — you let us know the same now, kaykay
We’ve just been alerted to an unsettling trend in Palm Pre land, where strings of replacement devices are a bit too common for comfort: some users have been losing their Palm Profile backup, or a large majority of it, once they pair up their new device. The big issue is that since this problem is rather sporadic, Palm doesn’t seem to have a good way to deal with it yet — the trend in the forums seems to be a complaint sent to Palm, followed up by word of an inability to restore data from Palm a few weeks later
Man, the Pixi has a tough life.

Filed under: Handsets , Palm , O2 The Palm Pre is scheduled to make its big GSM debut on O2 in Europe in just a few weeks, and it looks like final production units are making their way into the wild — these shots of a German Pre complete with final box art and a localized keyboard just hit the wires. Nothing here you’re not familiar with already, but man — the GSM and the Pre, gettin’ down. We’d only dared to dream, you know
Filed under: Handsets We were already pretty sure that reports that Verizon was passing on the Palm Pre were unwarranted , but the rumors just keep coming. Now BGR is reporting that it’s confirmed — albeit through an unnamed source — that the carrier will in fact land the device. It’s all starting to seem like a non-starter of a story at this point, considering we sort of already knew Palm’s device was probably going to Verizon , but at least now we’re less unsure that it’s not not on its way, right
Filed under: Palm , Sprint This isn’t the first time we’ve seen a Pre for $100 , but coming from Amazon, the legitimacy level is at an all-time high. If you’re up for a contract renewal, it begs the question why you wouldn’t do this over… oh, pretty much anywhere else where you’re still paying the recently-reduced $149 rate — and it also makes you wonder just how much price pressure’s going to be on the Pixi’s diminutive shoulders by the time it launches.
Filed under: Software , Palm Palm’s App Catalog for the Pre properly launches tomorrow , and right now the question on most peoples’ minds is just how many paid apps will be in there when the doors open. Based on the latest word from the development team, the answer could be quite a lot
