Now that webOS 3.0.5 is in the wild , we can start playing with some of the new functions that arrived with it. One of these features is a new sensor API, and that is the subject of this week’s App Hack
We have just released webOS 3.0.5 as an over-the-air update for TouchPads, and the 3.0.5 SDK is now out of Early Access.
This week’s App Hack will take a look at an API common across all webOS devices: the accelerometer. Generally, it is used to flip the screen around when the user rotates their device, but it can be used for so much more than that

While working on a recent Facebook release, we ran into a performance bottleneck in the Mojo.Format.runTextIndexer API. Performance on-device was on the order of a couple of seconds to process the content for feed items 30-50.
A neat little feature in webOS is the ability to push a scene from another application on top of your applications stack. Some of the core apps that have this feature are the People Picker (which is a cross-launch of the contacts app), the camera capture, and the video player.
Have you ever needed to set up a Mojo widget sometime after a scene’s setup method has been called? Perhaps you aren’t ready or don’t want the overhead of setting your widget up when the scene first loads.

And based on how fast DoGood’s Dropboxify client has been climbing up the Hot Apps charts , webOS users are already onboard with the service or are getting the hang of it pretty dang fast. In a nutshell, Dropbox is a cloud-based file hosting service that makes it easy to keep files synchronized across multiple devices.
