Verizon’s Palm Pre 2 shown briefly in pulled eBay auction?

Still in disbelief that Big Red will one day be home to Palm’s Pre 2 ? Can’t say we blame you, but the evidence is certainly building. Just three months after taking a peek at inside information hinting at the smartphone’s arrival on Verizon, along comes an eBay auction for a nondescript P102EWW — known amongst the FCC hounds as a CDMA Palm Pre 2

How would you change Palm’s Pre Plus and Pixi Plus?

We aren’t trying to lump these two together or anything, but we figured we’d give those of you who opted for Palm’s second set of webOS handsets an opportunity to pool your thoughts in order to make the smartphone landscape an even better place to survey. We personally didn’t find too much new to laud on Verizon’s Palm-branded twofer compared to the original Pre and Pixi , and those of you who were hoping for all new hardware from the company at CES were undoubtedly let down. Still, there’s something to be said about a webOS product on America’s “largest 3G network,” and frankly, we’re interested in hearing how you’d change things

Motorola CLIQ review

Filed under: Handsets , Motorola , T-Mobile Palm and Motorola have taken very different paths to get where they are today; one began life as a scrappy Valley start-up founded by a tablet computing pioneer, the other traces its roots to all the way back to the early days of consumer electronics and the automotive industry. Yet somehow, through years (decades, even) of adventure, success, and misfortune, they’ve found themselves in exactly the same situation here in 2009: it’s do-or-die time

Palm prepping Pre with North American GSM, but for whom?

Filed under: Handsets , Palm , GSM , EDGE , HSDPA , UMTS , webOS Palm seems to be making an active, conscientious effort to say as little as it can about the GSM version of the Pre , possibly in an effort to give Sprint as much spotlight as possible before its exclusivity expires — but as we all know, it’s real and it’s coming. Thing is, Palm has always implied that it’s being limited to European duty with a 3G radio that fails to cover bands that are of any interest to North Americans, so what the heck is this noise all about? Multiple certification bodies are now reporting the existence of a Pre model number P100UNA, as opposed to the P100UEU that’s launching in Europe — and it doesn’t take a lot of detective work to gather that those codes on the end stand for “North America” and “European Union,” respectively (for the record, the CDMA version on Sprint is P100EWW, so it ain’t that).

Sprint loses $384m, 257k subscribers in first quarter of Pre availability

Filed under: Sprint The Pre might have slowed the drain at Sprint but it hasn’t managed to turn things around completely — America’s number three carrier posted a second-quarter loss of $384m as it lost another 257,000 subscribers. That just continues Sprint’s trend of bleeding customers to the competition, and we doubt this balance sheet will turn around anytime soon — not only will next quarter reflect the $483m purchase of Virgin Mobile USA , it’s pretty clear that Verizon will get the Pre and AT&T will carry another webOS handset , leaving Mr. Hesse and crew without their shiny halo device to lure new subs to the fold.
